MY SNEAKER INFLUENCES - HOW THE JORDAN 1 CHANGED MY LIFE

My interest in sneakers started at an early age due to my dad, pop culture, and sports. Nike and Jordans have always held a special place in my heart compared to other brands just because that’s what I was exposed to the most as a kid. The Jordan 1 is one those shoes that’s so iconic it’s basically a household staple now. Everyone knows the significance the Jordan 1 has to Michael Jordan as an athlete and his career, just like how people know the importance of the swoosh to Nike and the golden arches to McDonalds around the world.

The Jordan 1 is such an iconic shoe, it’s no wonder why so many sneaker heads, including myself, coin it as their favorite Air Jordan model. Oddly enough, Jordans 1s weren’t the first sneaker that got me into shoes. I started out buying Air Force 1s and Nike Dunks in elementary school, so naturally an interest in Jordan 1s developed because of how similar each silhouette is to each other. I like how the design is so simple and can dress up an outfit whether you’re wearing sweats or a blazer and trousers.

The Jordan 1 silhouette always caught my eye as being a staple shoe. In my opinion, anyone can rock a pair of 1s without really trying. It’s one of those shoes you should have in your closet, despite being a sneaker head or not. The Jordan 1 is like the Air Force of Air Jordan models - a classic staple that gets better over time. My mottos in life are to “buy what you like and wear what you want” and “shoes are meant to be worn” and I live by those daily. Shoes are meant to get beaten up; they add character as each new crease forms. You can tell a story with every wear of a shoe, and that’s my favorite part of sneaker culture. I love story telling and I love hearing people talk about their passion for sneakers and why their grails are their grails.
